Jim Cockram has spent over 30 years in aerospace engineering with his apprenticeship and most of his formal training conducted over 25 years of service with the RAF. He went straight from the RAF to being CEO of the North Scotland Industries Group and over his appointment built up the membership before handing over to Ian Couper. He found this time very useful and made some fantastic contacts in the area.

On leaving NSIG Viable Ventures Ltd was born and then later came Copernicus Technology Ltd.

Viable Ventures is all about business improvement – it’s about business plans and strategy. One of their key areas of work is maintenance strategy and asset/data management. They work to improve the sustainability of business, and importantly – improving the bottom line by reducing waste in business processes.

Viable Ventures now works all over the world – only recently they completed a contract in Malaysia. They work closely with the Ministry of Defence on some strategic interim management contracts. Viable Ventures is a team of experienced personnel that have complimentary skills – when one person is working in a strategic role they are supported by a core of 8 team members and up to 15 associates; this provide the client with real added value.

Viable Ventures works on a range of varied contracts – many of which we can’t document here for security and commercial reasons!

Their work is not solely military based – they have worked with Diageo, Baxters, UHI and the Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service. Viable Ventures works under a lean ethos and they use many tools to deliver value to the client, including simple workshops, facilitation, interim management and, key to sustainment of any improvements implemented, knowledge transfer and training.

Copernicus Technology Ltd is an ISO9001 accredited high-tech company – they specialise in ground-breaking intermittency fault detection technology that sets to solve the ’no fault found’ problem found across all walks of life in electrical and electronic equipment - from aircraft to mobile phones. Their remit is not to simply look at the fault in isolation, but to investigating every aspect of a product from the manufacturer’s processes to the user, and everything in between; then where appropriate test assemblies and components. The technology has been successful employed on the Lockheed Martin F16 fighter to the Space Shuttle, and more recently on a complex coffee machine! They have worked on many projects over the past 2.5 years with a 100% success rate; if you have a ‘no found fault’ problem then they can solve it for you.
