Barbara and David Naisby hail from Sunderland and have in fact been an item since they were 15 years old (some sort of record I think). Friends of theirs moved from Sunderland to Muir of Ord and they felt their friends had got a much better quality of life so they decided to up sticks and move while they could. Within 3 months the house and the business were sold and in august 1988 David joined a practice in Hilton, Inverness.

This practice was 100% NHS business and the pressures of seeing 35-40 appointments a day took its toll on David who then had to take a step back from the business in 2000. At about the same time, Barbara went on a Dental Entrepreneurs course and was introduced to two mentors who helped them change the path of their business.

David retrained as a dentist providing high quality private dental care. And for those of you that think there isn’t much difference between the two, think again – the treatments and the equipment vary greatly between NHS and private practices! They went through their Hilton customers and graded customers from A-D with A’s and B’s being their preferred clients. They then invited the best 1700 clients to join them at their new practice in the heart of the Black Isle.

Black Isle Dental Studio specialises in cosmetic dentristy – it’s not about the perfect smile it’s about the perfectly natural smile. There is a folder of before and after photos in the client lounge to allow clients to judge the quality of their work. The photos show not just the change in the client’s teeth but the change in expression and indeed their whole face.

Barbara specialises in finding out what people want to acheive and in giving them some treatment options based on David's clinical assessment. She sees her role as a treatment co-ordinator with a nursing background. They have 1 practitioner and 3 staff at the studio, including their elder daughter, Gill who is also a dentalnurse/ treatment co-ordinator, and Kirsty who is a dental nurse will a post graduate qualification in sedation nursing. This shows the heavy focus on customer service and care. Potential clients are invited to the practice to have a look round before coming in for any treatment. Anyone going into the practice is greeted with tea, coffee, biscuits, magazines, comfy chairs and lots of testimonials.

Black Isle Dental Studio has a low turnover of clients as the team work hard to offer great customer service having 2 emergency appointments available every day so that any client experiencing pain can be seen promptly. Customers are able to watch DVD’s on special EyeTrek glasses when having a long procedure carried out.

A key element at Black Isle Dental Studio is keeping up with the latest technology and developments. One of the newest is the 6 Month Smile System which is a new teeth straightening option for adults. Instead of railway track braces or crowns and veneers, this treatment is minimally invasive and can achieve some great results.

However, it’s not just all about teeth at the Black Isle Dental Studio. They are also able to offer Botox and facial fillers and, in fact, given their knowledge of the facial muscles and their facilities they are ideally placed to do so.

So if you are looking for a dental practice that’s not like the usual run of the mill practices just make a bee line for Black Isle Dental Studio and why not get your frown lines sorted too.
