Taking Your Concept to Reality - Interface Event 10th November 2011

On the 10th of November 2011 Fusion attended the Interface event at the Centre for Health Sciences. The program included an overview of Interface by David Chapman giving some information about the work they do, who they work with etc. The first presentation was from Joe Lockwood at the Glasgow School of Art who gave an overview of some of the things they had done and some of the work that the students had carried out. How fantastic to have such a great resource in the Highlands.

Dr Andrew Wodehouse gave a really interesting presentation about the work they do at the University of Strathclyde in his department of Design, Manufacturing, Engineering and Management. There were some fantastic examples given of students work together with all the background research that went into them.

Then followed a couple of company discussions. The first was with Alasdair Lawton of HandsOnEvents about the work he carried out via Interface with Glasgow Caledonian University looking at timing devices for cycling events. Alasdair gave a good overview of the whole experience and how he would be happy to work with academia again.

Highland Fine Cheese was the second case study. Rory Stone gave an irreverent but fascinating overview of his experience with Abertay University and how for future he would scope out his requirements more clearly in advance to help the academic institutions understand his needs a little better.

The event finished with a question and answer session taking in questions from those attending at the Centre for Health Sciences and those joining the event via webcast.

It was a thought provoking event which also included discussions about intellectual property, non disclosure agreements, funding and a bit of a discussion on politicians of all things.
