Fusion at 4Networking 7th February 2012

It was an early start here at Fusion to take part in the 4Networking event at the Kingsmills Hotel. This group has been running for nearly 2 years and meets every fortnight for a breakfast networking session. The sessions are informal with the first 30 minutes for open networking, an introductions round (over breakfast), a speaker section of around 10-15 minutes and 3 ten minute appointments with people you want to meet in the room. 4Networking has networking breakfasts throughout the UK and is now spreading further afield - to Australia for example. Membership costs are £200 for 200 days membership plus £10 for each breakfast you attend. Non member attendance is limited to 3 breakfasts. Fusion was attending to promote Fusion as a networking organisation but also to look for opportunities, connections and links for our members.

This meeting was a little smaller than the previous event which included a visit from the Fusion Women in Business group but there were still an interesting group of people there. Having read an interesting article from Jackie Wade this week about "less being more" she mentions the importance of strengthening connections and looking for quality, not quantity. I was at a networking event not so long ago where someone I knew said she wouldn't talk to me because she had met me already, yes she had met me previously but she didn't really know me or know what I was interested in or that I had wanted to speak to her about some work - funnily enough I didn't bother after that.

Here at Fusion we are working on getting the next tranche of events ready for booking so keep on eye on the website. The next event we have is also at the Kingsmills on Thursday 9th of February from 12-2pm - it's a Staff Canteen for the Self Employed event so it's informal and small group networking (limited to 10). Look forward to seeing you at an event soon.
