Global Energy Group - Plans for Nigg

At the recent FSB event in Inverness about Real Life Entrepreneurs Alastair Kennedy gave us a quick overview of what Global Energy was doing at present and it's plans for Nigg.

There are currently 23 companies within the Global Energy Group and they are on track to turnover £280 million. They have 40 offices and operate on 6 continents.

4 of the rigs currently on test at the EMEC facility in Orkney were built at Isleburn in Invergordon and Global are currently working on wind turbines at the old Alcan smelter in Invergordon.

Global pays £57 million in wages in the Highlands and Islands region and has 1/5th of all the manufacturing capacity in the Highlands and Islands also. 19 of their 20 main suppliers are based in Scotland. Previously 5,500 people were employed at Nigg but this is likely to peak at around 2,000 in the future with plans to work on rigs for the next 2 years of so whilst Nigg has £10 million spent on it to get it up to operating capacity again.

The Nigg Energy park is much larger than you might imagine with 230 acres in the site which Alastair Kennedy related to football pitches to help us get the idea.

As you can see Global Energy is a major contributor not only the Highlands but also to the Scottish economy. Here at Fusion we look forward to seeing Nigg and Global's plans develop over the coming months and years.
