Allan Simpson graduated with a Degree in Hotel Management and spent his early years learning his trade in various hotels across the country. He learned all aspects of hotel management and particularly enjoyed the marketing side of the business. Allan worked at a range of hotels gaining experience in different types of markets – experience that was to serve him very well in later years.
Later in his career Allan decided to take an MBA at Strathclyde University and then set up in business on his own. Half this business was then sold to an American investment syndicate. Allan was providing support services for investment businesses and helped them find suitable businesses to invest in. Unfortunately the key person in charge of this business died suddenly meaning the company closed and Allan had to start looking for a new role.

He briefly returned to the hotel business and he was astonished to find that hotel sales and marketing hadn’t actually changed very much. The internet was a huge force in the world by this time but Allan found that generally hoteliers use of the internet as a route to market was neither wise nor clever. After a year or so he decided to go back in business on his own when the opportunity arose to work alongside an old colleague, marketing expert Fraser Hay.

Now Allan works with the Results Academy covering the area north of Perth. Having learned not to put all his eggs in one basket he also started working with Florida based ChannelRUSH. Originally Allan just worked with them in Scotland but he now covers the whole of the UK and Ireland. This role makes the most of his hotel experience and contacts as ChanneRUSH software helps hotels easily manage their relationships with 3rd party websites such as Expedia and Laterooms, keeping them up to date with availability and prices.

Allan calls himself a marketing coach and he works with people to reduce the cost of finding new customers. He starts every coaching programme with a blank sheet of paper as every business is different, what works for one might not be appropriate for another. Whilst he is an internet expert he also warns that using the online route to market in isolation can be a blinkered approach.  He often encounters the view that the internet alone is some sort of marketing cure-all, when in reality it is just one more way to reach your customers.

Whilst the Results Academy can do marketing for companies Allan advises most to get coaching and acquire the skills themselves given that marketing affects every level of business – he feels that when companies outsource marketing they often abdicate responsibility for it altogether.

Allan has run several Fusion workshop sessions for the roadshows and for the 2010 conference in Inverness.

Anyone who is frustrated or concerned by the lack of leads, conversions or sales for their business should definitely get in touch.
